Earlier on the day of the homecoming game I had interviewed a cheerleader and a football player; to ask how they felt about the game? The cheerleader Kristin had said "very excited, I know we are going to win!!! It's going to be crowded with students and parents. I can't wait to see all of the fans cheer our football players on!!! Now the football player Dantrell had said "yeah it will be decent." Our school played against Rich Central.During the halftime the band had played, the cheerleaders had cheered and the colorguard had done done a little cheer with the flags. And yes we beat Rich Central 44 to 12. Yes our warriors did outstanding, we beat them brutally. Let's keep it up warriors. Go warriors!!!

Some people sang, some read poems, and some even danced. They all had wonderful talents and Open Mic gave them a chance to show off what they can do; From high lifting highnotes to impressing poems. The students that performed on Open Mic did an amazing job in entertaining the audience. Student government sat and watched the show they planned out. Although there was a few slips in lines or lyrics, the show was a great success! Thank you student government and thank you to those students the performed! ~The E-Journalism Team~

What goals do you have for this season?
I want to devolop Athltes to be skilled basketball player. And to be have a conceptual approach e.g. I want to teach them how to play vs. what to play.
Is this your first time coaching?
No I have coached several times before.
Are you excited about your players?
I am very excited because their freshman year they were very successful. I am also excited about the aspect of teaching these kids life skills in a competitive environment.
Are you happy about coaching this team?
I haven’t coached a sophmore team in 12-15 years. I have coached at the college years for some time. To return to coaching sophmores is going to be very experimental. I am very excited and I can’t wait for the season to begin.

Meet A New Teacher: Ms. Swaney

Ms. Swaney is a new Chicago Height born teacher starting her first year at our fantastic school Crete Monee. “Yes, I am enjoying my first year of Crete-Monee because of my wonderful students,” she had said with a smile to my question, one thing I’ve learned about Ms. Swaney during this interview and as a student of hers was that she is such a positive person, her positive energy defiantly makes you feel positive as well which is probably the greatest effect to give a student.
This positive person also has a life beyond the white educational, colorful poster clad walls of her classroom. Although students know this, we fail to picture our teachers not in a school environment. Well, Ms. Swaney answered my question listing off interesting things, “ Painting, singing, volunteer work.” Have you ever pictured your teacher recycling while bursting into song like a scene from “High School Musical”? Well I suppose that this won’t happen but you probably haven’t pictured you teacher beyond the classroom.
Did you know that a small kid wanted to be teaching while other kids wanted to be president or an star? That’s right, Ms. Swaney always wanted to be a teacher! Have you imagined sitting down with a kid and asking them what they wanted to be when they grew up and they answered ‘a teacher’, Ms. Swaney has defiantly always been a smart person.
Ms. Swaney kind of grew up with Science in her life, with a engineer for a mother and a mad rocket scientist for a dad! So with this background kind of shaped the person she is today, a high school science teacher, doing what she enjoys every single day.
So, you kind of think you know all about Ms. Swaney by now with all of this information, huh? Well, did you know that nice Ms. Swaney took Karate for years? So, now you do know Ms. Swaney and you’ve meet a new teacher so don’t be shy if you see her in the hallways! She says that she been given a warm welcome by the student and staff, which isn’t a surprise with our high school Crete Monee.

The walk last for about a hour and 15 mins.. The participating students never stopped walking and some even jogged to show their enthusiasm to support the Cure. Let us thank those students and still support the Cure.

The Blue Ribbon Campaign

On Thursday April 21, 2011 the Crete-Monee Student Government held a walk for The Blue Ribbon Campaign, which is a memorial to children who have been touched by abuse and neglect. The campaign and walk stand as a reminder that everyone has a job to do in preventing the maltreatment of children. The Blue Ribbon Campaign was first started in the spring of 1989, by a Virginia grandmother who began the Blue Ribbon Campaign as a tribute to her grandson. The 3-year-old died at the hands of his mother’s abusive boyfriend. The blue ribbon is a positive symbol of the need to do one’s best when it comes to children and families. Since 1989, thousands of people nationwide wear the blue ribbon during April—National Child Abuse and Neglect Prevention Month—and year round to create awareness of the cause.
Students and faculty joined together to support this cause because we know that there might be members within our own community who are facing these hardships. Erica Jones, President of Student Government, was happy to participate in the walk; "This is just one small step among many in bringing awareness to this important cause." Erica was joined on the track by Fred Walls, Vice President of Student Government, who felt that the weather was "just right for a jacket” and “Crete-Monee is the best place to be for The Blue Ribbon Campaign”.
Although the team of walkers was small; all those in attendance made the day a special one. Personally, I thought the weather was just right, and that we all had a great time walking for an important cause.

A Back to School Celebration

On Saturday, August 28th, the Marching Warrior Band of Crete-Monee High School performed at the Back to School Youth Day Celebration held in downtown Forest Park, directed by Christopher Tedeschi and two very talented drum majors, senior Darius Francis and junior Tina Moscatel. It was a beautiful day for this event, sponsored by the Park Forest Youth Commission. The Rich Central HS Band and other youth dance and flag groups also performed throughout the day.
The Marching Warriors took the stage to an eager crowd, and they did not disappoint. As the drum majors kicked off the CMHS school song, the band immediately got the audience roused and excited. As they continued with their pre-game entrance piece, “Our League” (NFL theme song, played with a hip hop twist), the winds, percussion, color guard and drum majors were all dancing and giving it their all. It was then time to feature a little modern music by Lonely Island, “I’m On a Boat.” This one was a real crowd pleaser. Proving their virtuosity, the Warriors performed the “William Tell Overture” which is used as a fourth quarter “pick-me-up- song” at the home football games, complete with horn flashes and choreographed movement. The band then showcased the music from their field show, opening with “Sir Duke” (written and sung by Stevie Wonder in honor of the late great Duke Ellington) and then some current hit music of today by Lady Gaga, “Just Dance.” In closing their performance, the Marching Warriors took everyone back to 1973, groovin’ to the tunes with the Jackson 5 song, “Dancing Machine.” The crowd went wild!!
This was the first year for the youth celebration, a worthwhile event for the groups who performed as well as the audience. If you were unable to see the performance, don’t worry, because the Marching Warriors will be performing this Friday, September 3rd, at the first home football game as they cheer the team on to victory. Pre-game performance will start after the sophomore game at approximately 7:05 PM.

What A Great Start For the Class of 2014

Dear Staff and Parents,
I have been in education for 30 years and I have never seen an opening event for students quite like the Freshman Ignition Program that took place on August 25. The opening meeting with the freshman class in the auditorium was nothing short of electric and the excitement was contagious. The leadership that the student mentors [junior and senior class students] exhibited this day was unlike anything that I have ever seen at our high school. The student mentors carried themselves with great poise and purposefulness. The videos and skits that were put on by the student mentors were all student made and were superior in their presentation and message to their younger peers. The activities that were designed for the day were designed for team building and they also presented intellectual challenges for our freshman. It was a day that gave our incoming freshman opportunities to build camaraderie among themselves and forge new friendships.
I also want to give out kudos for all of the staff that participated in this day and especially for the administration and staff who helped planned the day and were instrumental in its flawless execution. This event reached the front page of our local newspaper and I am inviting student and staff representatives to the September Board meeting to give a brief presentation on the events of this day.
I am excited for the staff of CMHS and for the effort that is being made to make our high school one of the premiere high schools in the Southland region.
I look forward in hearing more success stories about our students and our staff at Crete-Monee High. Go Warriors!!!

New Teacher Orientation

This year the New Teacher Orientation was held at the University Park Golf Club in University Park, IL. Twenty-two new staff members were recoginized; half of those who attended were teachers, and the other half were support staff.
It was nice to see that some of our new staff were graduates and alumni of our school district as well as some of our new staff were past employees returning from having taken extended leaves from the district.
We are happy to meet our new staff every year prior to the beginning of school; this is done to impart important information that is needed to enable our new staff to have a smooth and productive start in the district.
To all of our new staff--Welcome Aboard!!!
